The last full day of a Long Beach Island vacation can turn into a tug-of-war. Everyone wants another beach trip, a favorite treat, and one final sunset. Meanwhile, wet towels, leftover food, beach gear, and open suitcases are taking over the rental.

Start Your LBI Last Day Plan at the Beach
Choose one final beach or bay visit. Do not try to recreate the busiest day of your vacation.
Bring only what you need for a short trip. Pack a few chairs, towels, sunscreen, water, and one bag of beach toys. Leave the large tent, overflowing cooler, and half the garage behind.
Check current surf and weather conditions before swimming. Choose a guarded beach during lifeguard hours whenever possible.
Then put the phones down for a few minutes. Watch the waves. Take a walk. Let the kids dig one more hole that is somehow deep enough to require an engineering permit.
Pick One Favorite LBI Stop
Choose one activity for later in the day. Return to a lighthouse, browse a shopping area, stop at a market, get a sweet treat, or enjoy an early dinner.

Use the Rental as Your Reset Point
Return to the rental between activities. Rinse off, cool down, eat what is left in the refrigerator, and complete a few small checkout tasks.
Put all beach chairs and umbrellas in one spot. Gather unopened food on one counter. Place dirty towels near the laundry area. Empty full trash cans. Check bedrooms for clothing, chargers, books, and toys.

Ten minutes of shared cleanup is easier than leaving one person to handle the entire rental while everyone else watches television.
Take Photos Before Packing Starts
Take your final vacation photos before suitcases cover the floor.
Photograph the family on the porch, the path to the beach, the view from the rental, or the table where everyone gathered for breakfast. Capture the places connected to the week instead of taking another row of posed photos in front of a blank wall.
Do it early. By evening, someone will be wearing travel clothes, someone else will be looking for a missing sandal, and nobody will want another picture.
Prepare for Checkout in Small Steps
Create one area for packed luggage. Keep another area for items you still need overnight.
Set aside the next morning’s clothes, medications, toiletries, phone chargers, keys, and travel snacks. Keep them out of packed suitcases.
Review the property’s checkout instructions before dinner. Confirm the checkout time and note any required tasks involving dishes, linens, trash, thermostats, doors, or keys.
Use up easy leftovers during the day. Throw away expired or opened food that cannot travel safely. Pack unopened items together so they are easy to load or donate where permitted.
Finish the evening with one quiet activity. Walk to the beach, sit outside, play a card game, or watch the sunset.
