Readying Your Home for Spring

Winter can be rough on your home. Snow, salt, wind, cold, and more can cause wear and tear. As the temperatures rise, and the weather gets nicer, we remind you to assess any damage and make a list of things to do to get your home in shape. This will help catch problems before they worsen and lead to costly repairs down the road.

Begin with a good inspection of your home’s exterior. Create a list staring with the most urgent. Look for things like:

  • Cracks in the foundation
  • Damaged or debris-filled gutters
  • Drafty windows or doors
  • Damaged or missing siding
  • Peeling or chipped paint
  • Roof damage like missing shingles
  • Check vents for damage or signs of animals
  • Test your garage door and inspect seals for wear

Next, assess your yard. Make a list of projects that include things like:

  • Trimming broken or hanging branches especially ones hanging over your roof or power lines
  • Checking trees for damaged bark or split trunks
  • Cutting back overgrown shrubs
  • Cleaning up debris from your roof or storms
  • Removing dead plants
